2014 Makeup Favourites

2014 has almost come to an end and the New Year is less than 24 hours away, which for me is a very scary concept. This year has flown by unbelievably quickly and has on a whole been a really good year for me. As a round up for the year, I thought I would share my top makeup products of 2014. I've picked six makeup products that I personally have loved throughout the year, the majority of them I've been using for the whole year and others are ones that I've discovered this year and have really stood out for me.

1. MAC Prep and Prime Highlighter in 'Light Boost'

The thing I love most about this highlighter is that it's on a brush so it's easy to apply and gives just enough precision for highlighting those tricky places like the bridge of the nose. It's so lightweight and the shade is perfect for brightening up under the eyes.

2. Clinique Universal Primer

I've been using this primer for over a year now and for me, it's my go-to base. It preps the skin perfectly for foundation application and has just become an essential part of my makeup routine.

3. Bobbi Brown Creamy Lip Colour in 'Honeysuckle'

I got this lipstick all the way back in April and it was love at first sight, for me, it's a faultless lipstick. The colour is gorgeous and the formula is everything I would hope for. For me, this is a big winner!

4. Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Liquid Lipsticks

These were my best drugstore find in 2014. They are without a doubt the best liquid lipsticks I have ever tried. 'Hot Pepper' has been my favourite red lip shade for months now.

5. Clinique Chubby Cheek Stick in 01 'Amp'd Up Apple'

There are quite a few reasons why this blush stood out for me this year. Firstly, I love the convenience of it being on a stick and how easy it is to blend into the skin with just my fingers. Secondly, it is such a lovely soft rose shade which is extremely wearable and gentle looking on the skin.

6. Rimmel Match Perfection Foundation

Picking my favourite foundation for this year was so hard but I weighed them all up and decided Match Perfection won the spot. The reason I like this foundation so much is that it really doesn't cake the face and is so fresh feeling, I've re-purchased it the most and it's the one I would grab if I was running out the door.

Hope you all have a lovely NYE whether you're going out or staying in!

Christmas Makeup/Beauty Gifts

Hey lovelies, Over the past couple of days I've really been enjoying everyone's 'Christmas present' posts and thought I would write my own sharing some of the makeup/beauty bits I received this year!

MAC Palette

I have wanted a MAC eyeshadow palette for a ridiculously long time and this year my Mum and Dad got me one as part of my Christmas gift which I was so ecstatic about. I had mentioned seven of the shades that I really wanted which are as follows: Vanilla, Shroom, Naked Lunch, All That Glitters, Wood Winked, Satin Taupe and Cranberry. Some of the shades I have had before such as Naked Lunch which is one of my all-time favourite MAC eyeshadows but the majority of them I haven't tried before so I'm excited to try different eye looks with them. I can't wait to fill the rest of the palette, I've already made a list of more shades I want to try! I'm definitely going to keep this palette neutral toned and hopefully, in the future, I will get another one for colour. I think this is such a lovely present to get so thank you, parents!

The next three gifts were all from my sister who spoils me with beauty goodies each year, so thank you, Holly, you're such a babe!

Bobbi Brown Nectar & Nude Eye Palette

I really love Bobbi Brown, I think they are slowly becoming my number one high-end makeup brand. All of their products are packaged so beautifully and they never fail to produce great quality products every time. This Nectar & Nude eye palette is an unbelievably beautiful and I am smitten with it. I haven't tried all of the shades yet as I've mainly been using my MAC palette but I've swatched them all and they all look so divine, the two shimmer shades in the centre are especially gorgeous! I'm looking forward to mixing some of the shades with the MAC eyeshadows.

Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick Compact in 'Apricot'

This Shimmer Brick alike the palette is stunning. It has five different shades ranging from a deep apricot to a snow white shade. Mixed together they create a beautiful shimmery highlight on the skin.

Tory Burch Perfume

I've been lovingTori Burch recently and without me even mentioning it I got this lovely perfume for Christmas. This perfume smells so similar to the Chloe perfume which I used to wear all the time when I say similar its pretty much identical. The bottle is so gorgeous and I love the intricate design of the lid, it's so different and beautiful.

If you have any "What I got for Christmas" posts leave me the link, I'd love to read them!

Friday, 26 December 2014

Hello lovelies,

I hope you've all had a wonderful Christmas and are enjoying your Boxing Day! I was lucky enough to receive quite a few makeup products this Christmas that I will hopefully be reviewing in the New Year!

I have once again got another MAC lipstick review, quel surprise. I got this lipstick around 2 weeks ago and I've become so addicted to wearing it. 'Morange' is a really popular shade from MAC and is a bright almost neon orange shade. Although it may appear to be very attention seeking shade its very wearable and looks beautiful with a very natural face as it really makes a statement. The formula is really creamy as it is one of MAC's Amplified cream lipsticks and applies on the lips so softly. The pigmentation is absolutely incredible, one coat is more than enough for a perfect cover of colour. It lasts for around 4 hours and then gently fades and leaves a lovely wash of orange on the lips.

This is going to be a perfect colour for Summer, which is a bit of a wait but I'll still get a lot of wear out of it until then. If you are looking for a gorgeous orange statement lipstick this one is for you!

Review: Clinique Nutcracker Palette - Act I: Snowflake Suite

Christmas is nearly here and Clinique has released a gorgeous new festive collection, the Clinique Nutcracker Suite. This collection is a really different take on the festive season and consists of lots of pinks and purples instead of the classic Christmas reds and golds.

The Palette I have is the Nutcracker Act I - Snowflake Suite. Within the Palette are four eye shadows, one blush and two blush applicators. The compact itself is a great size, with a nice big mirror which I always feel is essential with a palette. The four eyeshadows are as follows:

First up is a white as snow shade which has a very pretty shimmer to it, and is perfect for highlighting the inner corner of the eyes. The next shade is my favourite as it is unlike any eyeshadow I own. It's a very subtle glittery soft pink which really looks stunning on the eyes. The third shade is a lovely taupe shade that I will probably get the most use out of, as its really gorgeous both in the crease of the eye and as an all-over wash of colour. Last but not least we have a charcoal black shade which alike the soft pink has tiny flecks of glitter in it, which can be used to create a very dramatic eye look.

The blush included in the palette is called 'Plie Pink' and is a lovely bright pink that gives a beautiful flush of colour on the cheeks.

I think the Clinique Nutcracker Palettes would make such a lovely gift for Christmas! The Palette also comes in the Nutcracker Act II which contains more purple toned shades. I really would love to get my hands on the Snowflake Dreams Blended Face Powder from the collection which is a highlight which sounds, and looks heavenly.

What are your thoughts on the Clinique Nutcracker Suite Collection?

Review: Collection Lasting Gel Colour Nail Varnish

I'm trying to get better at looking after my nails as I'm a recovering gel extension addict. If you have had gel extensions before you will know that they leave your nails weak and looking horrible when you get them removed. So, I thought I would buy some new polishes to coax me into looking after them more and quite simply making them look prettier.  I was drawn to the Collection Lasting Gel Colour Nail Varnishes as I love a gel formula and really liked the colours on offer. I tend to stick to either red or nude nails as they go with everything, so these two were obviously both winners in my books.

The formula of these nail varnishes are really lovely, I tend to lean towards nail varnishes with a gel formula as I feel they always seem to give the nicest finish. The wide brush is the best aspect of these varnishes as it makes it so easy to apply to the nail. With two coats it gives a solid colour and high shine, it leaves the nails looking like they have shellac on which is incredible for such a bargain price.

I picked up the shades 'Antique Rose' and 'Daredevil'. Antique Rose is a gorgeous dark nude pink which is absolutely perfect to paint on when you're in a rush, and it goes with pretty much every outfit (I'm the kind of person that doesn't feel acceptable if my varnish and outfit clash, silly but I can't help it). Daredevil is a vampy red which is perfect for the winter season and looks really festive. The lasting power of these is quite good, seeing as I tend to pick at my nails a lot. They also dry really quickly which is an added bonus.

The Collection Lasting Gel Colour Nail Varnishes are £3.19

Ever since I purchased MAC's Ruby Woo lipstick I've been on the hunt for a liner that matched it perfectly. I did my research and found that the brick lip liner popped up a lot and so I decided to order it. MAC describes this shade as an intense golden red, it's really versatile and can be used with various different shades of red. Thankfully it works so well with Ruby Woo and the two together create a gorgeous classic red pout.

Like all of MAC's liners, it's really nicely pigmented and it has an amazing lasting power which really ensures that the lipstick applied on top of it stays in place. Although the MAC lip liners are slightly pricey they are a lot longer than most other lip liners I own and I can tell this one will last me a very long time, which in turn gives great value for money. If your a red-lipped lover and have not tried out Brick then I would definitely put it on the beauty wishlist!

Review: EX1 Invisiwear Liquid Foundation

I pre-ordered the EX1 Inviswear Liquid Foundation on after hearing such great things about it and watching multiple youtube tutorials in which it was used and on the 31st of October, it finally got released online! I've been wearing this foundation pretty much every day since I received it in the post and now feel I can finally give a good review of it.

Firstly, let me note that this is a foundation which has been formulated for olive/yellow skin tones, I, on the other hand, am a fair skinned girl with a mega fake tan addiction. I purchased the shade F200 which is slightly dark but is a perfect match for me when I have fake tan on, which is the majority of the time. I will probably get F100 for some of my paler days but I'm guessing it will still be quite dark. It was a bit of a mare picking which shade to get as it was online and I couldn't try it out but F200 was a relatively good match.

The name of the foundation itself, 'Invisiwear' really intrigued me as I always like to try foundations out that claim to make you look like your not wearing any foundation when you really are. Of course, you can tell that you have foundation on but you can hardly feel it's on as its so lightweight. The formula itself is really nice and blends into the skin really nicely. It gives really good medium coverage that can be built up easily. I personally like to apply it to the skin with the Real Techniques sponge and it gives a gorgeous luminous and fresh finish, I've applied it with a buffing brush and foundation brush too but the finish is definitely best when used with a sponge.

At first I didn't really like the packaging too much but I've really warmed to it. The pump is good and I love the fact that you can visibly see how much you've got left. All in all at £10.50 this foundation is an absolute steal and I'm without a doubt going to re-purchase it!

Review: Maybelline Color Drama Intense Velvet Lip Pencil

I admit I have an unhealthy obsession with lip products and really it's all I've written about recently in the blogging world but I honestly can't help it. This new addition to my nude lip collection from Maybelline has yet again caused me to enter into absolute lip heaven.

The shade I picked up is 630 Nude Perfection and the name certainly does it justice. It's one of those infamous  'Kylie Jenner lip' shades and it makes the lips look so full and luscious. The formula is matte and extremely pigmented, they last around 2-3 hours on my lips, whilst drinking and eating before I have to re-apply. There are eight different shades of these lip pencils currently available on and after trying this one I'm definitely going to pick up some of the others.

I've had this beauty of a lip pencil/crayon for around three weeks now and I have seriously fallen in love. This little stick is essential in my makeup bag now and If I don't have red lipstick on this will without a doubt be plastered onto my lips. The Maybelline Color Drama Intense Velvet Lip Pencils only cost £4.99 so are a complete bargain and seriously worth trying!

I always seem to find really good beauty bargains on Amazon and whilst recently browsing through the beauty section I came across this NYX concealer which I had heard really good things about so I thought I would try it out as it was only cheap and looked really nice. The NYX HD Concealer is one of NYX's best selling products and renowned for its great ability to brighten under the eyes, concealing dark circles and any red marks on the skin. I chose the shade CW10 yellow as yellow concealers can help to clear up colour issues by neutralising those pesky shades such as blues, purples and reds which is exactly what I need.

One of the main reasons I like this concealer is because it blends so seamlessly into the skin and doesn't cake up your face leaving it heavy. It has medium coverage but is very build-able, I layer the concealer to gain slightly more and it still looks very fresh on the skin. The formula is very creamy and is lightweight and blend-able so it makes the concealing process just that little bit easier. It also works great as a highlighter as it has a great brightening aspect to it. This is currently my go-to under the eye concealer and for such a bargain price I'm really happy with it.

I purchased the NYX HD Concealer on Amazon for £4.72 with free postage.

Review: Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Lipsticks

Bourjois is one of my favourite high street makeup brands as they never seem to disappoint, so I was drawn to buying some new bits from them on a recent Superdrug trip. I've not really tried out many liquid lipsticks before so I was really intrigued by the Rouge Edition Velvet lipsticks as its always nice to try out something different. The two colours from the range that really appealed to me were Frambourjoise and Hot Pepper, both of which are gorgeous bright shades.

02 Frambourjoise
The reason I picked up Frambourjoise is that I tend to steer away from pink lipsticks as they don't always suit me but this shade is so pretty so I thought I would embrace the pink and try it out. What I love about this shade is that it's pink without being too in your face, it's quite a reddish pink and it makes the lips look really full and plump.

03 Hot Pepper
Hot Pepper is one of those shades you want to wear on a rainy day to brighten up your life. It's a beautiful red which really livens up any makeup look. I wore this one to uni the other day and got so many complements on the colour. I can see this one becoming my go-to easy red lip.

I love the formula of these lipsticks, they apply so beautifully on the lips. I was slightly sceptical at first as when first applied they look quite glossy (as you can see in the swatch) but they dry completely matte which is just to my liking. The applicator is really easy to get along with and allows just the right amount of precision to ensure the lip looks perfect, which is a necessity as these things stain like a bitch (which in my opinion is a very good thing as long as you haven't smudged it on your face!) I apply two layers as I feel it gives just the right amount but even one layer would do as the colours are very strong. These things literally stay on for forever even after drinking one too many cups of coffee which makes me love them even more. I'm seriously tempted to try out the other colours in the collection possibly some of the more nude shades.

I picked these up for £5 each on offer in Superdrug! So if you're looking to try them I would definitely head there while the deal is still on!

I've been lusting after this lipstick for what seems like forever. I have so many of MAC's nude lipsticks and I thought that instead of buying yet another nude I would branch into the world of the red lip. When looking at the different red offerings MAC has to offer I was drawn to Ruby Woo. Ruby Woo is one of those classic lipstick shades that is always associated with MAC. Now that my hair is slightly blonder I love wearing red on my lips, although red looks great with the majority of hair colours there's something about blonde hair and red lipstick that just looks so gorgeous together.

Ruby Woo has a retro matte formula which is definitely the most matte formula I have ever tried. A lot of people don't get along with MAC's matte formulas which is understandable as it has an extremely waxy formula and tends to dry out the lips quite a bit but personally I love them. Yes, there is the constant urge to lick your lips but as the formula is matte it means the lasting power of this lipstick really is incredible and the beautiful colour makes it worth it! I'm really happy I picked this shade up and it will be stable in my makeup routine for a very long while.

I'm thinking of picking up Russian Red when I'm next in MAC which is slightly less matte and also a little darker than Ruby Roo, which I think will look really gorgeous in the winter months.

Brow Chat

I've finally got myself into a steady brow routine that is quick, easy and leaves me with brows that I can finally accept. I'm not one for the over-drawn look, been there, done that and I've got one too many dreadful photos to tell the tale. This combination of liner and gel just builds on the brows and doesn't leave them looking overly drawn in but gives full brows with a good amount of definition.

Model Co More Brows - I've tried my fair share of brow gels and this has got to be one of the best out of all of them. Not only does this gel thicken the brows but it also shapes and moulds them perfectly into shape. This gel keeps them in place for so long ensuring that they don't have to be fixed or brushed throughout the day.

Clinique Superfine Liner for Brows in 02 Soft Brown - This has been a staple in my makeup bag for a while for many reasons. Firstly, its a perfect colour match for my brows, finding that colour match has been a trial and a half. My hair is a fair bit lighter than my brows so when it comes to drawing them in I like to find a shade close enough so that my eyebrows don't look overly dark or false. I like to gently use this to sharpen the lines of my brows to define them slightly more.

I'm probably gonna stick to this combo for a while as I love it so much, although I am very very tempted to try out Benefit's Gimme Brow and the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz! If you have any other suggestions of amazing brow products let me know!

A Simple Skincare Routine

When reading this months Elle magazine I came across an article called 'The Skin Fast' which discussed whether a detox from too many beauty products could fix all your skincare woes. This idea has been playing on my mind for a long time now and has really influenced my skincare routine the past couple of months and so I thought I would share by the journey of cutting down my excessive beauty regime. I went through a period of really bad skin towards the end of last year and the beginning of this year. I was so confused as to why my skin had suddenly broken out and was so dry and sore. I tried everything I could to try and fix the problem, I cut out dairy, I drank more water and I consistently cleansed and looked after my face.

It wasn't until I stop my over-obsessive skincare routine that my skin returned to its normal state. I found it quite difficult cutting back on all of the face masks and oils and moisturisers because I used them so frequently and thought they were really helping my skin. I've not plastered my face with different lotions and face potions to try and improve it and my skin has been better than ever. I wouldn't say I've neglected my skin, I've just given it a much-needed rest.

My new routine is so simplistic and really saves me so much time, it goes as follows:

Clinique Take The Day Off - I've talked about this product so many times before and it's without a doubt my HG skincare product. It's fragrance-free and is so gentle on the skin yet removes makeup and cleanses so well. I recommend this to everyone, I'm 99.9% sure that I won't find a cleansing balm that will top it.

Elemis Re-hydrating Ginseng Toner - I could never cut a toner out of my routine, since discovering toner it is without a doubt one of the essential parts of my morning and evening beauty schedule. This Elemis toner is so lovely and has re-hydrating elements which are perfect for my dry skin.

Superdrug Naturally Radiant 2 in 1 Moisturiser and Serum - I change up my moisturisers every other week to ensure my skin doesn't get too used to them. This Superdrug one is surprisingly one of my favourites. I normally opt for a more luxurious moisturiser but after receiving this is a goodie bag I've been using it quite a bit. I love the idea that its both a moisturiser and serum combined so I get two steps over with one product. It has a gel formula and is so light on the skin so is perfect to apply just before makeup.

Yes, I enjoy the occasional face mask session and don't always keep it so minimal but don't we all? I would without a doubt recommend a skincare detox if you are having skin issues that won't seem to go away!

I always get overly excited when a new Nars product is added to my beauty collection, there's just something about the smooth, sleek packaging that makes me melt inside. The Delphes eyeshadow trio has been around for a while but I've never really heard too much about it. However, my sister gave it to me as part of my birthday present and I now absolutely adore it. This is my first Nars eyeshadow trio and I was intrigued as to whether it would be as amazing as their face products, the Laguna bronzer and orgasm blush are my Nars favourites. The Trio itself is so compact and it has a mirror which makes it even handier!  If you explained this palette to me without me seeing it I would without a doubt be puzzled by the weird colour combo, but they actually work really nicely together. The three shades are as follows:

Sparkling Sheer Peach - Firstly we have this lovely sparkly pinky peach shade which is so pretty. It's not as pigmented as the other shades but works really nicely when used as a highlight. The only downfall with this one is that it does contain some large bits of glitter which ultimately lead to fall out. You have to place a tissue under your eyes when applying to avoid your entire face looking like a disco ball.

Matte Dove Grey - This cool dove grey shade is probably the shade I will use the most out of the three, it's really buildable and perfect for creating a smoky eye. Like the peachy pink shade, it has glitter in it but its very subtle and leaves more of a frosted finish. On first application, it's quite sheer but it can be built up to a strong, bold grey.

Frosted Sage - Out of the three I've probably worn this shade the least as I'm not a 'green' kinda person but the consistency and colour payoff of this shade, when built up, is great. It has a metallic finish and really makes my brown eyes pop.

They all stay on the lids for a substantial amount of time, around 6-7 hours. I was really impressed by how well these shadows blended into the skin, they appear to have an almost creamy finish. I would definitely say that the eye-shadows aren't as amazing as Nars face products but they're still really nice. If you love cool toned eye shadows that are a bit different then this is a perfect option out of the NARS Trios.

July Favourites

So I haven't blogged in a very long time and writing this feels extremely strange. There wasn't one specific reason I stopped blogging, it was just a mixture of being busy and feeling uninspired. I'm going to try and get back into blogging a couple of times a week because I really do love it and I miss how committed I was to my little blog. I thought the best way to get back into it was with one of my favourite posts to write which are monthly faves. This month has been great, I celebrated my 19th birthday and went to Greece for a girls holiday so most of my July faves are holiday/summer related.

MAC Pearl Frost Cream Colour base £15.50 - Highlighting is my favourite makeup routine during the summer. I love the high shine this highlighter gives and on a tan, it shows up so well. I've stuck to fresh dewy skin this Summer and this highlighter has been the main part of my makeup routine. Another thing I love about this highlighter is that a little goes a long way, you only need the tiniest amount!

Clinique Repairwear Intensive Lip Treatment £24.00 - I'm so sad I've nearly finished this lip balm, it's by far the best high-end lip balm I've tried. I smother my lips in this stuff every night and wake up to the softest lips I've ever had. The moisture lasts throughout most of the day so I hardly ever have to top it up. It's the perfect base for lipstick as well! The only downside is the very high price tag which is quite hard to justify but it has lasted me quite a long time.
ASOS Sunglasses £10.00 - These things have been with me every day this month and I can't seem to peel them off of my face. On holiday I hate wearing makeup during the day especially when it's so hot and melts off of your face so these were great to put on and cover up my sleep deprived and hungover eyes. They're such a nice shape and I will probably keep wearing them until they break!

Clinique Moisture Surge Face Spray £21.00 - This bottle of freshness was my holiday saviour! I get extremely hot when I'm out in the sun and my skin often feels tight and dry on my face from sun exposure. Spraying this on my face would make me feel so much better, refreshing my skin and making me look like I have dewy, healthy skin.  With the warm weather London has been having I'm sure I'll make my way through this bottle by the end of the Summer.

SONY White Headphones £10.99 - A bit of an odd July fave but I brought these beauties on Amazon earlier in the month after breaking multiple pairs of cheap earphones. I didn't want to spend a fortune on headphones so when I came across these on Amazon for £10.99 I thought I would give them a go. They are by far the best headphones I've owned and made everything sound so much better. If your looking for a new pair I would without a doubt check out these ones.

I hope you've all had a lovely July!

REVIEW: Revlon Photo Ready Foundation

I am extremely picky when it comes to foundation. I ideally like a foundation that isn't too heavy but leaves me looking flawless and glowing. I'm on a continuous hunt for the perfect foundation so I'm always trying out new ones. I've been using Revlon's Photoready foundation for around a month and a half now so I think it's finally time to share my thoughts. The last Revlon foundation I used was around four years ago and because I didn't like it very much so I never really tried out any of their other foundations. However, I had read that this foundation was very similar to Makeup Forever’s HD foundation which I really wanted but couldn't bear the price tag so obviously on one of my many boots trips I picked it up. I've actually been wanting to try the Photoready range for quite a while as I'm a sucker for anything that suggests that I'll look picture perfect. The actual packaging is really mini and I'm not the biggest fan of the bottle but it's what's on the inside that counts right?

So let's get down to the nitty-gritty.
The finish it definitely satin and the product does have very tiny sparkles in it that make your face look me it's naturally glowing but does leave the skin looking rather sparkly and Edward Cullen esque in certain light. However, I think this is one of the reasons that it photographs so well. This foundation contains photochromatic pigments that apparently bend and reflect light to help erase every flaw. Obviously, it doesn't remove every flaw but it does give a considerable amount of coverage. I was expecting a much heavier coverage but I think if it did give more coverage it would be really heavy on the face. I picked up the shade 004 Nude and its just slightly darker than my skin tone and blends really nicely into the skin. I think its a really good colour match as I like to be close to my skin tone but always the tiniest bit darker.

Overall I really like this foundation, it's perfect for special occasions and for when you really want a full face of makeup. I won't be wearing this every day but I will be reaching this on many occasions, particularly on a night out!

Are you a fan of Revlon foundations? Let me know if you have any suggestions for any good ones!
